Archipenko installed favorite in Arlington Million!
Archipenko has been named as the favorite to win the 26 th staging of the Arlington Million on Saturday (9 August, 2008) at Arlington Park racecourse.
Archipenko will be one of three European horses running in the 8-horse field at Arlington Park racecourse.
At 1¼ miles, the Arlington Million serves as the marquee event for Arlington Park racecourse's International Festival of Racing.
A 4-year-old Archipenko has been soaring high in the world stage for most of the year and has accumulated almost $2 million in earnings from 13 starts.
In February, Archipenko won the Commercial Bank of Dubai Al Fahidi Fort in Dubai by two lengths. Then he came in third in the Dubai Duty Free. But he immediately followed this with a score each in the Audemars Piguet Queen Elizabeth II Cup in late April in Hong Kong and a ¾-length win in the Plymouth Gin Summer Mile at Ascot Racecourse.
Archipenko now runs under the barn of Michael de Kock and is owned by Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa al Maktoum and Dr. A. H. Parker. He was previously trained by Aidan O'Brien.
Jockey Kevin Shea will be astride Archipenko at Arlington Park Racecourse on Saturday. He will be starting from Post # 1.
Stiff competition is expected from the likes of Einstein, who has already won a Classic this year and has placed second to Curlin and Kip Deville, and Mount Nelson , winner of the Coral Eclipse Stakes in early July at Sandown Park Racecourse.
Other entries to the Arlington Million are Stream Cat (winner of the Arlington Handicap in early July), Spirit One, Sudan, Cloudy's Knight, and Silverfoot. |
