Curlin has international ambitions after Stephen Foster win!
Curlin, the reigning Horse of the Year, is setting his sights toward the French Grade I race, the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp racecourse on October 5th.
Curlin returned to serious training by breezing an easy five furlongs in 1:03.80 and galloped out six furlongs in 1:17 with regular exercise rider Carlos Rosas on Monday morning at Churchill Downs racecourse. Curlin covered the five furlongs in fractions of :13.20, :26.20, :38.80, and :51:20.
The ride was Curlin's first serious move since winning the Grade I Stephen Foster Handicap on June 14 th at Churchill Downs racecourse
"He looked good," trainer Steve Asmussen said.
According to Asmussen, Curlin will again workout on the Matt Winn turf track at Churchill Downs racecourse next Tuesday to determine if he is ready to be sent to Longchamp racecourse.
Asmussen also sent out Pyro for his first move since winning the Northern Dancer Stakes (G3). The three-year-old Pulpit colt breezed four furlongs under Rosas in :53.60.
Pyro is tentatively scheduled to run next in the Haskell Invitational Stakes (G1) on August 3 at Monmouth Park racecourse. |
