Horses stabled and in training at Fairplex Park racecourse are often later raced at the Fair and other major racecourses.

In 1922, the inaugural LA County Fair opened on October 17 and ran through October 21. About 49,461 people visited the Fair.

In 1925, the LA County Fair was held in September instead of October and attendance topped 100,000.

In 1933, pari-mutuel wagering was legalized in California and the Fair allowed fans to place wagers on horse racing.

In the 1940s, the Fair grounds were converted to support the war effort.

In 1985, the racecourse was expanded to 5/8 th mile.

In 1986, the facility was named Fairplex Park racecourse. Major renovation was performed on the Grandstand and Clubhouse facilities.
