Black Mamba wins Beverly Hills Handicap!
Black Mamba captured the Grade IIT, $150,000 Beverly Hills Handicap on Sunday at the Hollywood Park race track turf, thus snuffing-out a seven stakes no-victory streak. Black Mamba's winning time was 2:01.25.
Black Mamba was ahead of second-placer Solva by 1¼ lengths. Black Mamba paid $4.80, $2.80 and $2.40 while Solva returned $9.60 and $7.20. Green Lyons came in third and paid $7 while Forest Melody came in fourth.
Forest Melody was the early pacesetter as she registered an opening ¼ mile clip of :24.49, followed by :48.73 for the half and 1:13.22 for six panels. Double Trouble and Solva studiously gave chase to the pacesetter.
Jockey Garrett Gomez frenziedly conjured Black Mamba to perform toward the stretch and the horse responded by going for the kill in the upper stretch. Black Mamba then went past Solva and Forest Melody to take the Beverly Hills Handicap.
Solva, ridden by Aaron Gryer, was a clear second by 1½ lengths while Green Lyons just barely edged Forest Melody for the show spot.
Black Mamba increased her career earnings to $359,171. She carried 117 pounds in her victorious Hollywood Park race track ride. |
