Tiago and Heatseeker set to clash at Hollywood Gold Cup!
All eyes will be focused on the two powerhouse contenders, Tiago and Heatseeker, for the 2008 running of the Grade I Hollywood Gold Cup on June 28 th at Hollywood Park racecourse.
Tiago and Heatseeker will be facing 8 others in the 1¼-mile Hollywood Park racecourse extravaganza on Saturday.
Heatseeker is the morning-line favourite in the Hollywood Cup Cup and will be starting from Post 3 under the ridership of jockey Rafael Bejarano. Heatseeker was victorious in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Handicap on March 1, and is fresh from a win over Tiago in the Californian held at Hollywood Park racecourse. Trained by Jerry Hollenforfer, Heatseeker has triumphed in seven of his 17 starts. Heatseeker's earnings now stand at $1,180,223.
Hollendorfer has expressed satisfaction on Heatseeker's training and present condition. “He's been training very well for quite a while now and he's been a very consistent horse for me. I hope he's coming up to this race in as good a form as I think he is.”, Hollendorfer said. He also said that jockey Bejarano has been very pleased with the way Heatseeker has been breezing.
Meanwhile, arch-enemy Tiago is raring for a return bout with his Californian tormentor. Tiago is half-brother to Giacomo, winner of the 2005 Kentucky Derby. Tiago has also won the 2007 running of the Santa Anita Derby, the grade II Swaps Stakes and the grade I Goodwood.
Tiago finished fourth in the Santa Anita Handicap and upset Heatseeker by a head in the grade II Oaklawn Handicap.
Tiago will be ridden by jockey Mike Smith and will be starting from Post 4.
Heatseeker and Tiago will be facing some of their strongest competitors at the Hollywood Park racecourse this Saturday. Strong contenders are Go Between, Student Council, Perfect Drift, McCann's Mojave and recent grade II winner Big Booster. |
