Acoma wins Azeri Stakes!
Acoma captured the $144,400 Azeri Stakes on 08 March (Sunday) at Oaklawn Park racecourse, thus achieving her third straight graded stakes triumph. She accomplished the assignment in 1:42.55.
Under the direction of jockey Julien Leparoux, Acoma started with moderate speed and was seemingly content to sit toward the midpack, well behind a rapid pace set by Devil House. The pacesetter broke from the second post and clocked spellbinding splits of :22.61, :45.89, and 1:10.30. Meanwhile, Bear Now made sure to stay close to Devil House, ready to exploit any opportunity. Smart Surprise, Maren's Meadow, and Initforthekandy were close by in the next group.
Acoma made her move toward the far turn when she angled out for the drive and proceeded to advance with huge strides in the straightaway. Acoma overcame the leading duo as they approached the 1/16 th -pole to win the Oaklawn Park racecourse extravaganza.
Bear Now came in second while Devil House was 1½ lengths behind. Acoma paid $5, $2.80 and $2.60 for her Azeri Stakes victory.
She now has a 6-1-1 record from nine starts and her total earnings are at $480,260.
Acoma also won the Dogwood Stakes in May at Churchill Downs racecourse. She had earlier won the Valley View Stakes at Keeneland racecourse in October and the Mrs. Revere Stakes at Churchill Downs racecourse three weeks later. |
