Wait a While headlines San Gorgonio Handicap!
Wait A While, a multiple Grade I winner, is at the top of a field of six that will see action in the Grade IIT, $150,000 San Gorgonio Handicap on Sunday at Santa Anita Racecourse's turf course. Jockey Garrett Gomez will be taking the mount.
Wait A While is currently the solid favorite for the San Gorgonio Handicap as projected favorite Nashoba Key has not been included in the lineup so far. Her Trainer Carla Gaines has cited risky weather and track conditions for the decision not to enter.
Wait A While is trained by Todd Pletcher and comes off a second-place finish in the one-mile grade IT Matriarch on the Hollywood Park turf course on Nov. 25.
Though she took the loss in stride, Wait a While was compromised by the Matriarch pace and could not make an impression on the winning Precious Kitten in the stretch run, finishing 1¼ lengths behind.
With two triumphs in six starts in 2007, Wait A While did not have quite as good a season especially when compared in 2006 when she garnered an Eclipse Award as the nation's outstanding 3-year-old filly.
Wait a While has won both both the American Oaks (gr. IT) and Yellow Ribbon (gr. IT) among her five victories in 2006, earning more than $1.2 million. The gray has a 9-3-4 record in 19 lifetime starts and has banked $1,729,917.
Significant competition is expected from the other five participants in the San Gorgonio Handicap. |
