Olonana, O'Shea's spring prospect, unveiled at Canterbury Park!
Olonana impressed many in her debut triumph at Canterbury Park Racecourse on Wednesday. She is expected to be one of trainer John O'Shea's top prospects for the spring campaign.
Olonana started out just satisfactorily in the Port Macquarie Handicap (1100) at Canterbury Park Racecourse.
However, jockey Hugh Bowman deftly took Olonana to the outside and spectacularly ran to beat the Peter Snowden-trained Margham by a head.
Mirabeau, who started as the $1.80 favourite, finished a half length away in third spot.
"The first start in a race tells you a bit about a horse and she was able to overcome adversity today and still win," said trainer John O'Shea.
"She'll have a spell now and we'll save her for the Melbourne spring."
Olonana had participated in two barrier trials prior to her Canterbury Park Racecourse debut, both on good tracks.
The Canterbury Park Racecourse surface was rated heavy on Wednesday but O'Shea said he was always confident she would handle it based on her pedigree.
Olonana is by More Than Ready, the sire of Golden Slipper winner Sebring, out of a Myocard mare. |
