Jockey Joshua Jones suspended!
Apprentice jockey Joshua Jones was slapped a month-long suspension by stewards of Queensland Racing Limited following his ride on the Kelso Wood-trained Lassie Mactavish at Doomben racecourse last week.
The stewards inquired into Lassie Mactavish's run after she placed second to Loose Unit in a class three over 1,660 metres on June 18.
Under the direction of Jones, Lassie Mactavish settled at midfield before unleashing a strong run only to be beaten 2¾ lengths at the Doomben racecourse event.
Wood told an initial inquiry that his instructions to Jones were to make sure Lassie Mactavish raced on the speed.
The inquiry concluded on Wednesday with stewards concluding that jockey Jones was guilty of breaching a horse racing rule which requires riders to take all reasonable and permissible measures to ensure their mounts have every chance.
The 17-year-old jockey Jones only recently moved to Brisbane after being based in Sydney and Ballina on the NSW north coast.
Joshua Jones only returned to riding in May after serving a three-month careless riding suspension over a race fall at Grafton racecourse in December 2007 in which jockey Daniel Baker was killed.
Jones won the final race at the recent Ipswich Cup program aboard Tornadic Sky.
Joshua Jones's suspension will begin at midnight on Sunday and ends on July 29. |
