Birallee preps for Hiskens via Macdonald Steeplechase at Moonee Valley!
Birallee will be aiming to jumpstart his campaign for the Hiskens Steeplechase when he takes part in the Ian Macdonald Steeplechase at Moonee Valley racecourse on Saturday.
Birallee's trainers Fran Houlahan and Brian Johnston are looking forward to a good performance in the 3,700-metre event at Moonee Valley racecourse after his less-than-stellar showing in the 3,200-metre St Steven Steeplechase.
The Macdonald Steeplechase in mid-July has always proven to be a vital precursor to the Hiskens Steeplechase to follow two weeks later. Four horses have already won the two contests since 1974.
Birallee has had eight jumps starts and his only win over hurdles at the end of his campaign last winter was enough to suggest to the stable that he could be competitive in better races.
Birallee's only jumps appearances this season apart from the St Steven Steeplechase were a win and a second in two 2800-metre steeplechase trials at Cranbourne racecourse.
Trent Wells is likely to be astride Birallee in the Macdonald Steeplechase. |
