Captain Bax raring to go in June Stakes!
Sprinting sensation Captain Bax is expected to show his best and figure well in the June Stakes at Randwick Racecourse this Saturday.
Captain Bax is coming into the 1,100-metre June Stakes after he placed a disappointing seventh to Teasing in the Casino Prince Quality at Scone on May 23. He was ridden by Hugh Bowman in that contest.
That was Captain Bax's first race in more than a year and jockey Tim Clark is expecting him to take huge improvement at Randwick Racecourse.
"It was a big effort and we'll see a much sharper horse on Saturday," Clark said.
Captain Bax has been allotted 56kg in the June Stakes while his stablemate Fritz's Princess, who is an emergency for the Group One Stradbroke Handicap at Eagle Farm, has topweight of 58kg.
"It's a competitive race and I'm sure he'll be in right in this, he can match it with any of them," Clark said. "He's a more than capable sprinter on his day and hopefully we see him at his best on Saturday.", he added.
Captain Bax defeated Readyforcatherine by two lengths to win the Catbird Quality at Scone in May last year.
Clark has ridden Captain Bax once before when he finished eighth to Mustard in the Group Three Concorde Stakes in 2006. |
