Equiano captured the King's Stand Stakes at Ascot Racecourse on Tuesday and thus gave his connections success with their first ever runner at the royal racecourse.
The three-year-old Equiano was at the rail early on under the direction of Olivier Peslier and powered all the way.
The King's Stand Stakes was recently upgraded to Grade One status for the first time, and has caught the attention of owners and trainers of the fastest horses from all over the world.
Equiano, a Spanish youngster trained by Mauricio Delcher Sanchez, blistered with speed and tenacity throughout the Ascot Racecourse contest.
Equiano held on to win by half a length, with Takeover Target in second, and 15-8 favourite Fleeting Spirit back in third.
The winner runs in the colours of County Tyrone farmer James Acheson, who only bought the horse two weeks ago.
Amazingly, it was Acheson's first runner of any description, never mind at the Royal meeting at Ascot Racecourse. "It's absolutely unbelievable," said Acheson.
Equiano's triumph was a fitting tribute to the efforts of Delcher Sanchez, who will no longer be training the horse.
