Henrythenavigator ready to take shot at Epsom Derby!
Expectations are quite high that Henrythenavigator will participate in the eagerly-anticipated Vodafone Epsom Derby to be held at Epsom Downs racecourse on June 7th.
There is a palpable enthusiasm in the Coolmore camp to get Henrythenavigator to contest a race that's over half-a-mile farther than Saturday's 2,000 Guineas.
The Ballydoyle team responsible for Henrythenavigator is likely to make a decision regarding his participation in the Epsom Down racecourse extravaganza in the next seven days.
Owner John Magnier, who heads the Coolmore syndicate, said yesterday: "The lads who are with the horse will get together and give their recommendation but if you ask me what I'd like to do, my heart is certainly for running. That's what he was bred to do, to run in a Derby , and you can't say he won't stay just because he has speed."
Henrythenavigator supplemented his English Classic triumph with another win over Jim Bolger's New Approach in the Boylesports-sponsored Irish version at the Curragh on Saturday.
"He's perfect and seemed fine. This will be the week that we sort out the Derby horses, but Kingdom of Naples won't be one of them. We had a few things go through him so we've had to back off and he'll be back in the autumn," said trainer Aidan O'Brien.
Henrythenavigator is now as short as 7-2 with Coral for the Epsom Derby and Magnier has confirmed it will be a joint decision as to whether he lines up.
