Yeats captured the Royal Bank of Scotland Goodwood Cup at Goodwood Racecourse, thus claiming a rare second victory in the exciting contest. Yeats accomplished the feat by winning over his closest competitor by a dominant seven lengths.
Yeats saw action for the very first time since attaining his third Gold Cup at Ascot Racecourse. Yeats made good use of his vaunted heart and lungs to outrun the competition in the thrilling Goodwood Racecourse extravaganza.
Under the direction of jockey Johnny Murtagh, Yeats coolly ran up and down the rolling contours of Goodwood Racecourse with the front-running Tungsten Strike setting a challenging pace. As they reached the top of the hill, Yeats made his move and rolled past the leader.
With Murtagh summoning all the strength he could from Yeats, the horse ploughed ahead and registered the most comfortable of victories. Sagara of Godolphin Stables came in third.
Yeats now has an unbeaten streak in his three races this year. Yeats' triumph in the Goodwood Cup further enshrined his domination in the staying division.
Yeats' win came even as trainer Aidan O'Brien was stranded in Ireland and unable to leave the airport due to heavy rainfall.
Murtagh later intimated that the Goodwood Racecourse win was easier than that in Ascot Racecourse.
"At the top of the straight I asked him to extend on a long rein and he quickened up well. It is just so smooth and he gave me an armchair ride." Murtagh said.
The Goodwood Cup is another major trophy for Team Ballydoyle.
