Elnawin wins Sirenia Stakes at Kempton!
Elnawin pulled off an exciting win when he topped the field at the Sirenia Stakes on Saturday, 06 September 2008, at Kempton Racecourse.
Under the direction of jockey Pat Dobbs, Elnawin calmly ran near the back of the pack in the early stages. However, he executed a strong forward move turning into the straight to challenge the leader Square Eddie. Square Eddie had taken a prominent role in the early race.
Meanwhile, another development was ongoing on the rail as Weatherstaff also found himself in the running for a possible win.
However, it increasingly looked like it would be either Square Eddie and Elnawin who will win the contest and true enough, Elnawin eked out a narrow advantage in the final fifty yards to take the Sirenia Stakes. Square Eddie squeaked by in second while Weatherstaff was a close third and looks sure to improve for the run.
"He'd ride them bareback!" joked Elnawin's trainer Richard Hannon. "This is an improving horse but is going to be difficult to place.
VCBet make Elnawin a 50-1 chance for next year's 2000 Guineas .
Elnawin's win at Kempton Racecourse on Saturday was going to earn the horse far less money than the sales race he won at Newmarket Racecourse last time, but it was nothing like as clear-cut. |
