Ascalon captured the Lloyds TSB Cardnet Handicap at Newmarket Racecourse. The victory paves the way for a possible run for Ascalon at the Cesarewitch Handicap to be held later this season at Newmarket Racecourse.
Under the ridership of jockey Neil Callan, Ascalon ran strongly from the start and seized the lead from Invasion with three furlongs still to run.
Ascalon was soon leaving his opponents behind as he clearly ran ahead of them in the closing stages. He was a 10-length winner from his closest rival Sleepy Hollow.
"He is a horse who has had one or two little breathing difficulties," said Eddery's racing manager Simon Double.
"The pollen we have had during the summer hasn't helped him and we have given him all sorts of lotions and potions to help him deal with that.
"He seems a much happier horse now and you could tell that today when he was out in front as they never really looked like catching him.
"Neil suggested he could be a Cesarewitch horse and as he is bred to get a trip, that is a real possibility at this stage."
